Judge Carter Refuses to Hold Back 20,000 California Mail Ballots. DOJ Is Appealing Again.
U.S. District Judge David O. Carter on Wednesday denied the Justice Department's emergency request to make California and Los Angeles County set aside mail ballots from about 20,000 people federal agencies flagged as likely noncitizens. He called the list's methods unproven and said the order would 'wreak havoc' on an election already underway. DOJ filed a new appeal to the Ninth Circuit that night. The same day, a grand jury indicted three Los Angeles County residents on charges that they lied about past voter registrations on citizenship forms.
