Make the strongest case for your side. We pair each column with one from the other side on the same question, so readers hear both at their best.
How it works
- Pick an open debate on our Guest Columns page, or propose a new question.
- Tell us which side you are arguing, left or right, and send a short pitch.
- If we accept it, we pair you with a columnist from the other side. Both columns run together on the same page.
Guidelines
- Length: 700 to 900 words.
- Argue, don't insult. Make your case on the merits. Personal attacks on the opposing columnist or on ordinary Americans who disagree will be cut.
- Source your facts. Link every factual claim. Opinions are yours; facts must be checkable. All quotes must come from a cited source.
- Original and exclusive. Not published elsewhere, including on your own blog or social media, for 30 days after publication.
- Disclose conflicts. Tell us about any employment, funding or campaign role related to your topic. We will note it in your bio.
- Real name and verification. We publish under real names and verify identity by phone.
- Editing. We edit for clarity, length, accuracy and style. You approve the final version.
